VALORADA is pleased to announce the successful completion of the first workshop in its Capacity Building Programme, dedicated to Local Data Spaces and Management. This session explores how data spaces are transforming digital governance, urban management, and sustainability efforts across Europe.
The workshop provided a deep dive into how data is updated, shared, and integrated within regional and sectoral data spaces, ensuring transparency, interoperability, and compliance with European regulations. Participants engaged in discussions on the evolving data space ecosystem, its governance frameworks, and the role of local authorities in leveraging data for climate adaptation and policy-making.
Monika Krzyżanowska from Cloudferro provided an industry perspective on data space ecosystems, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for regional authorities in managing and optimizing data use. She emphasized the importance of data infrastructure, interoperability, and security in ensuring effective data governance at the regional level.
Giacomo Martirano from Epsilon Italia examined the role of urban data spaces in advancing the European Green Deal, offering insights into how sectoral data can be shared across stakeholders to support sustainability initiatives and smart city development. His presentation explored how regional data spaces can drive innovation and improve decision-making processes.
Natalia Oprea from Lisbon Council provided valuable insights into the technical and governance aspects of data spaces, sharing best practices on integrating diverse data sources, ensuring compliance with European regulations, and fostering collaboration between public and private stakeholders. Her presentation emphasized the critical role of governance in ensuring that data spaces are accessible, efficient, and aligned with climate adaptation strategies.
The workshop underscored the need for a collaborative approach to data management, encouraging open discussions on best practices, technical challenges, and policy frameworks that can support the effective use of data spaces for climate action.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all participants for their engagement, thoughtful contributions, and valuable discussions. A special thank you to our expert speakers, Monika Krzyżanowska, Giacomo Martirano, and Natalia Oprea, as well as to the Climate-KIC team, including Stefka Domuzova and Michelle Zheng, for their support in organizing this workshop.
